I’m Dez, a southern gentleman born and raised in south Louisiana. I made this blog to show how Louisiana’s culture is so distinctively cool, it sets trends. There is no place on planet Earth quite like the Bayou State. Throughout most of American history this boot shaped area around the Mississippi River, and the folks who live here, have always found a way to influence worldwide popular culture. I mean actual influence too, not the influence reality television shows try to depict. Those shows have the entire world thinking we are gun-hauling, water travelers that hunt and eat whatever is caught in the backyard. By the way I’m not knocking any of that. Nevertheless, I’m thankful I was lucky enough to grow up sharing the same state as the birthplace of Jazz and Zydeco music, tasty Cajun and Creole cooking, the mystery of Voodoo and the party that is Mardi Gras. From the Louisiana Purchase doubling the size of the United States in 1803 to the origins of today’s popular dance craze “twerking”, Louisiana or “The Boot” as I call it, has constantly continued to be more influential than the other 49 states. If not more influential, certainly more cool!
